Eyelash extensions are everywhere, it seems like everyone that’s anyone has them. The really good quality ones are almost impossible to detect, besides the fact that they look so beautifully perfect. I have another post up about the different pricing of extensions and how the quality differs, you can check that out here. This post is all about what to expect when you get eyelash extensions, and just to be warned in case you’re thinking of getting them done.
1. You could lose a lot of your actual eyelashes
Yup, starting off with a rough one. It’s true and it happened to me. Depending on where you go and how the lashes are applied, you could lose big chunks of eyelashes… not a pretty thought. I’ve gotten my lashes done multiple times and only once I’ve had this happen to me. I knew when I got them done that they were glued together in clumps, but I wasn’t prepared for how many of my lashes I’d lose. I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty sad about it lol. If you’re going to get eyelash extensions, I cannot urge more that you go somewhere reputable. You definitely do not want to end up with half of your lashes left hahah.
2. You may look lopsided once they start to fall out
Another crappy thing that nobody warns you about!!! Depending on what side you sleep on, or how often you touch one side of your face, the extensions will fall out at different times. I usually sleep on my right so I would end up with half the extensions on that side, but I still had all of the lashes on my left side… which SUCKED. It doesn’t make sense to pay for a fill when one of your eyes still looks perfect, so you’re basically stuck looking lopsided until the eyes even out a bit. So unless you sleep on your back… be warned lol.
3. You’ll probably become addicted… and then broke
Even with all the negatives, they really do look amazing when they’re first done. So amazing to the point where you’ll keep going back to get them re-done, and re-done, and re-done. This is an EXPENSIVE addiction, but it’s so real. It can cost up to $300 for the full application, and then up to $100 every TWO WEEKS to have them filled…. it adds up. That’s not to mention the amount of time spent getting them applied. It can take over 2 hours to get the initial application, and then around an hour for a fill. It’s a very time consuming & expensive addiction.
4. You can’t touch your eyes anymore
The unfortunate truth… eyelash extensions really just make you way more high maintenance. You’re constantly worried about anyone touching your eyes or getting near the extensions, or getting them wet in the shower. Once you brush them out in the morning and they look perfect, there’s no way you’re going to let someone to come and mess them up! That means, no more rubbing your eyes if they’re itchy or dry, no more dunking your head when you’re swimming, no more ANYTHING that revolves around your eyes. Don’t even get me started on taking off eye makeup…
5. They go in all different directions 80% of the time
As I said before, they really are so stunning when they’re first applied. They look good for the first week and then everything just goes to sh!t afterwards. You don’t realize beforehand that it actually takes a lot of effort to make them look as good as they first did. Brushing them out every morning is essential, otherwise each lash is going to go in all different directions. Some of them will twist up with a couple others and then it’s gonna look bunched together and NOT CUTE. I think you get what I’m saying.
I’m completely aware that this post is kind of negative hahah and for that, I apologize. I just wanted those of you who are considering getting lashes to know EXACTLY what you’re getting yourselves into. I really do love lash extensions and loved when I had them. If you do choose to get them, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go somewhere reputable where you know you won’t lose all your natural lashes… there is no coming back from that! If you’re curious, give it a shot! No real harm in trying something new 🙂
