Starbucks Unicorn Frap – Worth it?
I feel like every year Starbucks comes out with some new crazy drink for a few days and it becomes ALL THE HYPE!
Everyone’s talking about it, tweeting about it, instagramming it, blah blah you get the point. So of course, this year is no different. Although, I feel like this new drink has been talked about much more than any of the other ones! People either loved it or hated it, which I could understand!
The overpriced, terribly bad for you, special new starbucks drink is “flavor-changing, color-changing, totally not-made-up Unicorn Frappuccino. Magical flavors start off sweet and fruity transforming to pleasantly sour. Swirl it to reveal a color-changing spectacle of purple and pink. It’s finished with whipped cream-sprinkled pink and blue fairy powders.” Sounds kinda crazy right? I mean, flavor changing?! What??!
Naturally I was very curious. I saw some pictures of it on Instagram and couldn’t believe how cute it was… exactly what I’d imagine a unicorn drink to look like! The morning of its launch, I went right over to starbucks to taste this thing.
When I walked in, there were already 3 unicorn drinks being made at once! They started by drizzling whatever blue crap they use on the sides of the cup (I later discovered it was extremely sour lol), then they proceeded to pour the artificially colored drink in after! After ordering, I sat down at a table and every drink they called out was the unicorn drink. News had spread QUICKLY about it and people were ready and excited to see what it was all about!
When I finally got my drink, I took around 5012 pictures of it before even sipping it! Couldn’t risk messing up any of its beauty by drinking it, right?! I was already well aware that this drink was not healthy in the slightest, and with the health kick I’m on right now I knew I couldn’t have the full thing. My first sip was very confusing; at first it was sweet, fruity and creamy, and then I got a quick hit of sour! I continued sipping it and it was definitely unique!
The look on my face says it all, pure confusion. Do I like it? Do I hate it? I came to the conclusion that I actually did like the drink, but still couldn’t finish it because of how much freaking sugar they put in that thing!! I attempted at mixing it up to discover the “flavor changing” effects, but I don’t know how legit that was. The color didn’t really change either… I guess maybe it just became a little more purple?
Overall, it was a cool idea and I’m glad I tried it! I wouldn’t order one on a regular basis, but how often does one get to drink a unicorn frappuccino!? WORTH IT!!
