San Diego
A Weekend in San Diego
Something I love about living in Los Angeles is the ability to drive a couple hours north or south and end up in a total vacation spot! Yes, LA is also a vacation spot, but I’m thinking more of a beachy location! My boyfriend had work in San Diego a couple weeks ago so I decided to head down with him for the weekend! Before I moved to California, my family and I would always visit SD, so now it’s just a super nostalgic place for me!
On our drive there, I was sitting in the passenger seat just googling all the coolest spots to visit in San Diego! We only had a few days and I wanted to make the most out of it, so I started to compile a list of things we NEEDED to do before driving back to LA! Our first stop, Balboa Park.
Wow, just WOW. I really didn’t have any expectations when we got there, but once we started walking around I was so so impressed! It was beautiful, with so many different areas to check out! There were fountains, flowers, and cool art installations!
Look at this tiny little tree!! My 5’1 self really enjoyed being taller than it lol. We were at Balboa park for around an hour, just taking it all in and exploring everything! The rose garden was BEAUTIFUL, I almost felt like I was in a movie scene while walking through it! (is that weird?? maybe lol).
After we covered the entire park, the sun was starting to set and we knew we wanted to get to a beach for sunset!
Thankfully we made it right on time and got to watch the sunset! For some reason, San Diego sunsets are just NEXT LEVEL stunning! Some of the nicest sunsets I’ve ever seen! Unfortunately though, it was so so so cold and we clearly weren’t dressed for any cold weather! So we had to head back to the car pretty quickly and head to another spot.
We went directly to Old Town, which wasn’t too far away! It was really cool there, but again, we were not dressed warm enough so we just decided to call it a night and head back to the hotel.
The next day we got up and were ready to go pretty early (when I say early, I mean 10am lol). Stopped at Chipotle for some lunch, and went directly to location #1 of the day!
Scripps Memorial Pier, just a random pier on a random beach… but so cool. I saw pictures online and it reminded me of a pier I went to in Hawaii, and knowing my love of Hawaii, I had to go! We took some pictures for a while and then took a nice long walk down the beach!
It was super nice getting to meet a subscriber and her boyfriend while we were there, they were great & told us to check out the La Jolla cove! So that led us to location #2!
SEA LIONS EVERYWHERE!! EVERYWHERE!! I couldn’t even count how many there were! They were all just chilling there, flopping around in the sun! Let me just tell you… the smell… horrendous. It was awful. But besides that, it was incredibly cool being able to walk right up next to them! After spending a ton of time looking at all of the sea lions, we decided our last stop of the day would be Downtown SD!
Truthfully there wasn’t all that much to do downtown. Mostly just some shopping and checking out some cool murals, which we gladly did!
It was definitely a long day at that point and my boyfriend had work that night, so we went back to the hotel for some chill time.
On our last day there, I was in desperate need of a cute coffee shop to go to! So I went to instagram to figure out which one we were gonna go to! Communal coffee, SO cute!! They had a nice outdoor patio, which I’m a total sucker for. It was an instagram dream; succulents everywhere, avocado toast, everything basic that people love to hate… but I love to love!
I almost never buy food at these “trendy” coffee shops, mostly because I find them overpriced. But I was hungry and saw avocado toast on the menu, it had been a whileeee since I had some, so I went for it! It was GOOD, and I see why they charged $6 for it (which isn’t nearly as bad as some places in LA). Definitely worth it and it got me fueled for the long ride back home.
We did a few other things on our last day but I didn’t take any pictures, we wanted to just take it in and enjoy them for ourselves! It was such a short little trip but we really managed to fit in as much stuff as possible! We had so much fun and we have all of these fun pictures to remember it all! :)
